Our today's recipes is:
What is RAM?
Computer memory that dynamically stores program and data values during operation and in which each byte of memory may be directly accessed.
*Means that locations in the memory can be written to or read from in any order, regardless of the memory location that was last accessed.
*considered as Primary Memory
*The more RAM that you computer has, the faster and more efficiently it will run.
RAM Vs Rom
RAM - Random Access Memory (direct access)
*ROM - Read-Only Memory
*The terms RAM and main memory are basically interchangeable
*ROM could be a set of memory chips, or a separate device, such as a CD/DVD ROM
*RAM should probably be called Read-Write Memory
Dynamic RAM Vs Static RAM
Dynamic RAM (DRAM) stores each bit of memory in a separate capacitor
*Pros:
*Only one transistor and capacitor are required per bit
*Cons:
*Capacitors leak electrons
*Information is lost unless charge is refreshed periodically
*For this requirement it has been given the description dynamic memory
*It is slow
Memory type of RAM & ROM
Random access memory (RAM)
* Static RAM (SRAM)
* Dynamic RAM (DRAM)
Read-only memory (ROM)
* Programmable read-only memory (PROM).
* Erasable programmable read-only memory (EPROM).
* Electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM).
